The National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) is pleased to announce that Michael A. Marino, Ed.D., has been named the new Field Editor of the Journal of College Science Teaching (JCST), NSTA’s award-winning, peer-reviewed research journal for postsecondary-level science educators. Marino will officially assume his role on January 1, 2026. He replaces David Wojnowski, who has edited the journal since 2017.
“We’re excited to welcome Michael to the JCST editorial team. His leadership and deep understanding of the needs of college science educators will help us continue to shape a journal that is both responsive and forward-looking,” said Cathy Iammartino, NSTA’s Chief Product Officer.
Marino brings a wealth of experience and expertise in science education to his new role. He is an Associate Professor at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ in Rockville Centre, New York, where he teaches undergraduate chemistry and conducts research in college science education. He holds an Ed.D. in Learning and Teaching with a specialization in Science Education and has more than 13 years of teaching experience. In 2024, Marino received Molloy’s Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of his mentorship, instructional innovation, and commitment to student success.
Marino’s scholarship includes a 2025 publication in the Journal of Chemical Education, co-authoring Measurements in Evaluating Science Education (Taylor & Francis, 2020), and presentations at national conferences, including the 28th Biennial Conference on Chemical Education. He is also a co-inventor on three U.S. and international patents involving NMR spectroscopy.
In addition to his research, Marino has made significant contributions to the broader science education community. He received the 2025 Outstanding Committee Service Award from the American Chemical Society’s Division of Chemical Education and serves as a peer reviewer for NSTA, the Journal of Chemical Education, and the Council on Undergraduate Research. As co-Principal Investigator on a six-year, $2 million NSF S-STEM Track 2 grant, he is developing curriculum-embedded research opportunities and self-study online modules for introductory science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses.

Marino will play a pivotal role in shaping the journal’s content by identifying key topics relevant to postsecondary science education, soliciting contributions from a diverse range of educators, and overseeing the manuscript review process. His responsibilities include ensuring the articles reflect sound judgement, exemplary safety practices, scientific accuracy, and practical application.
Published six times annually, JCST, is a peer-reviewed research journal for university faculty and state and district science supervisors and leaders. JCST provides a forum for the exchange of ideas on and experiences with undergraduate science courses, particularly those for nonscience majors. JCST also reports and discusses innovative teaching materials, methods, and evaluative criteria; disseminates contributions toward improving college science instruction; and describes work in disciplinary science courses that is broad enough in its approach to appeal to teachers in other scientific fields.
